The History of Forks River School Forks River Elementary School is located at 611 Cookeville Highway in Elmwood, Tennessee which is located in rural Smith County. The school was built in 1955 to serve students in 1st through 8th grades. Approximately 150 students attended Forks River the first year. The school was proud to have a faculty of six teachers, which included a teaching principal. Three additional classrooms were added in the 1970’s to meet the growing population. Beginning in the spring of 2001, Forks River School began building two additional classrooms with extensive renovation planned for the entire school building. Central heat and air conditioning were added along with a new office, and library. The cafeteria, kitchen, gymnasium, and existing classrooms were remodeled that year also. Stories from FRS
